Maisha Tele Academy: Bringing Education and Hope to Kawangware
The Grant Abundant Life Centre was established in 2024 in the heart of the Kawangware slums. In January 2025, it became home to Maisha Tele Academy, a primary school dedicated to serving children from the surrounding community.
Kawangware, one of Nairobi’s largest slums, faces significant challenges in access to quality education. Many children are unable to attend school due to overcrowded classrooms, financial hardships, and limited opportunities for academic advancement:
Overcrowded Classrooms – Public schools often have teacher-student ratios exceeding 1:60, making it difficult for students to receive the attention they need.
Financial Barriers – More than 40% of residents live below the poverty line, surviving on less than $1 per day—making essentials like school uniforms, books, and transportation unaffordable.
Limited Educational Progress – Fewer than 30% of children in slum communities like Kawangware advance to secondary school.
At Maisha Tele Academy, we believe that every child deserves access to quality education in an environment where they are seen, known, and loved. Our school was founded to provide holistic learning, spiritual growth, and empowerment, ensuring that children who would otherwise lack opportunities can thrive academically and beyond.
